In today's increasingly complex business world, security is becoming an even more important aspect of running a sound operation. If customers cannot trust a company with their personal or financial information, it's likely that they will take their dollars and support to another firm they have faith in. Deploying the right IT solutions is key for data loss prevention, but so is making employees aware of their role in preventing breaches.
CSO Online recently explained that for optimal data protection, security professionals must be sure they get through to workers. After all, they play a critical role in whether a compromise will occur or not, since they are often the ones handling sensitive records and using corporate systems. The source advised that to make staff members truly prioritize safety, awareness programs must be engaging and comprehensive, and this can be achieved through creative approaches.?Ira Winkler and Samantha Manke of Secure Mentem recalled one business' approach of setting up a mock cubicle full of security violations. Employees could peruse the set-up and if they identified the 10 problems present, they'd be entered in a drawing for a prize. Not only did staff learn about what constitutes unsafe behavior, but the experience could prove memorable down the line.
Cisco advised that another strong tactic to enhance security awareness is to make these issues more personal. Leaders should make it clear to workers that if they do not adhere to certain regulatory compliance standards, it isn't just customer data at stake: Sometimes, employee information will also find its ways into criminals' hands. This not only motivates them to be more careful, but it could help them sympathize with clients and, as a result, be more cautious in the future.
More engaging awareness efforts hold benefits for all parties, including the organization as a whole. When vulnerable records are well-protected, customers will take notice. This supports healthy bottom lines and strong reputations.
